Excuses Me Pleases

Is anyone in the mood for reasoning, how's about an excuse?

It's very simple to give reasons for one's short comings, to justify one's folly, to find a loop hole for laziness.

However, these probably cause more harm than good. Evidence? Look at the world economy. Instead of taking up the mantle of responsibility, big business execs preferred to blame their greed on the non educated , the equally greedy, the misinformed, and probably the poor and desperate. I am certain that these "money lenders" and "financial advisers" knew fully well the consequences of certain decisions and the actions of their customers but I suppose they wanted to see how much they could squeeze before it reached a critical point. Critical, it seems, came sooner than they thought.

So what about you my friend. How many excuses have you made today, yesterday, going to have to make tomorrow? I can't blame you though there are many rights to be wrong, and are twice as many words, phrases, quotes and statements that generate enough sympathy (stupidity), so that people will believe, attempt to understand, try to empathise, or simply accept your failure.

Failure is not a bad thing here, it shouldn't be a habit though...but it's not a bad thing. It's as the Dali Lama says: "When you lose, don't lose the lesson". We, however, tend to gain the excuse rather than the lesson.

What about mistakes, I'm sure you've never gotten up and said "hey i'm gonna make a mistake today". I may have mentioned this in my other posts but certainly not this... In the modern world our experience is just another word for our mistakes, and sadly our justifications are just our excuses.

The solution: Take responsibility... It's that simple. An excuse harms no one but yourself. What are you trying to protect? Your good name, your reputation, or your pride and facade. Image is everything in this life I agree, but in the end it's nothing. every time you use an excuse you sentence yourself to live by the same fate you claim. I say (inspired by the bible) by the power of the tongue shall you manifest.

Be reasonable if not with other with yourself, and being truly reasonable with yourself you will come to notice the benefits you give to others.

Impact of/Resistance to - I

As a human being's brain develops (provided all of the brain's functions are in tact) we come to understand the world around us by means of feelings and sensations. However, below our level of understanding, our minds and sub-conscious are already formulating or mental state via our external environment. It is the sensations and feelings interpreted by the above mentioned formulators, that possibly dictate our very means of living.

There is a common belief that children "soak up" everything, that their external environment affects their very well being; in terms of their attitude, mannerisms and disposition. It is constantly within my wonders as to how a baby moves towards items of interest. How does he/she know if the item is hazardous or not, is it useful or useless, is it a discovery or a complete waste of time. Whatever the case it doesn't matter. The baby would still move towards the object until his/her interest moves towards another object.

If the baby does not yet even posses the ability to speak... How does it reason or rationalise his/her attraction to the object. Is is purely feeling, impulse, the vibrations of their senses or do babies have more complex senses that are lost during the introduction to what is "REAL", "POSSIBLE", and what is "TRUTH".

It is said that without our external environment we would be not fully cognisant of our very own existence and not aware of the presence and pressure of the "not self". In other words he will have nothing to compare himself to. To think that our senses, feelings and sensations dictate our very state of consciousness is not so much of a far-fetched idea now is it? Our five senses relay the vibrations of colour, sound, chemical reactions, and physical stimuli all to the brain, dictating the way we interact with objects...whether it be a gross sight or a pleasant smell.

But it brings me to the thought of urges and our sense of desire. What exactly is it that causes our external environment to affect us beyond our senses, all the way towards our feelings and urges. That causes us to make stupid decisions, fall in love at first sight, believe that it's love when it's lust, that causes us to be selfless. It's probably the product of our conscious formula that has been brewing ever since our early years of existence, or maybe our perceptions or our own ignorance. Happily (or sadly) the circumstances into which we are born are beyond our control (Although some philosophers will argue that the "I" self is already omniscient of this). Our parents may have had major influence in our lives, our neighbours may have had input as well.

Maybe it does take a village to raise a child, but as an individual...What is it that dictates you to follow a trend, what causes you to oppress your true self. Fear of rejection?
The true meaning of this post was to see where it all starts, through the development, trials and errors and ending. It's time to go back to the beginning.
This is just a random thought... I thought would share...

And it develops

The High-Level Diagram

In the world of Information Technology, specifically Systems Analysis, there is a particular topic where we would emulate an organisation's flow of data with a DFD or Data Flow Diagram. In the rudimentary stages of the diagram's development we would start with a simple "Level 1" diagram or a high level diagram. This high level diagram (HLD from here on after) just gave a very basic yet vague idea of the process involved with the flow of data.

The most amount of understanding you may get from a HLD is - in the case of a business that sells computers- Customer places order, business provides product. That doesn't say much now does it? That does not say much of the process, or any of the internal workings on the part of the Computer Business. Heck it doesn't even speak about suppliers that the computer business may rely on.

Now the reason I drew this example is that on life's journey there are things that come to your attention. It seems that people are easily willing to accept their own ignorances as the absolute answer. For example, In conversation with a girl she happened notice my beads that I wear around my arm. These beads are of Chinese origin so she asked,

"Are those Buddhist beads"
"Well I wouldn't call it that but they do have the Chinese symbol for prosperity on it" I replied
"So are you like Buddhist?"
"I follow the doctrine and I base my statements on the noble eightfold path, and Dao de Jing (by Lao Tsu), but it's not like I go around saying 'Buddha bless you' or anything"
"Oh well do you do the mantras or meditation things" said the girl with a slightly scornful look
"What's a mantra, a chant not? You do that everyday of your life"
"What do you mean?"
"Well..." I now turn to another girl involved in the conversation "as a Catholic don't you say hail mary like 12 times?"
"Well like ten but yes"
"And even when you tell youself something everyday constantly that is a mantra, and it will come to pass"

Eventually the girl who asked the questions originally, understood what I said but also said that she cannot go "that deep".

I wondered though how deep is it to understand that a mantra is no different from a sentence uttered many times. When we constantly recite lyrics from a song, that too becomes a mantra. The only difference is the WORD... "Prayer" - "Mantra" the meaning is the same. This is an example of the HLD or what I call it the "Level 1 Theory", where people only look and the surface area of a scenario and arrive at their discrimination from it. Of course the Words "prayer" and "mantra" are physically different but if you delve deeper you would know that their meanings are the same.

This problem goes across the board from Religion to our Speech patterns, all the way back to our perceptions of people. We tend to look at the surface area of the person and pass our judgments from there. No? Of course you do - "He looks like a nerd", "Wow she must be an idiot if she's wearing that... it's so old fashioned" - No harm done right... or so you think.

Let's consider the inverse on the subject of appearance. People use this idea to portray an image (well that's stating the obvious not?). But now you're a bit more aware. The thing is though...The joke's on you, because the people who wear the clothing in question actually expect that you apply this form of judgement to get the attention they desire. The guy who dresses in the all black with the mass amounts of gold obviously is trying to inject some sort of fear in his male observers and a sense of ruggedness and the "rude boy/good sex" idea into his female observes.

These situations have occurred countless times, yeah it's now called a stereotype.

Now away from the clothing issue... What about the ever sensitive "Religion" issue or the "Race" issue. Aren't we simply judging from a surface point of view. My belief system is based on Tibetan principles and yours is based on Roman catholic beliefs. Yes we have our differences on the surface but at the deepest levels aren't we both supposed to be on a path to finding heaven on earth for us and others? What about skin colour? Sure races have their physical differences but ironically, we all function the same physically! Mentally every human is different, but fundamentally all brains perform a function not?

My friend, accepting the diversities in all people and finding connections is the key to happiness. We must love all and only fight for the preservation of this love, a genuine love, unbiased, unrestricted, UNLIMITED!

The Orange Seed - Part 4

The Concern of Consequence

It is apparent to me now (and possibly for a long while before) that it is not so much that people intentionally do things to create harm, but they simply are unaware of the consequences of their actions. Take a smoker for example - He/She will pull on a cigarette, possibly in the privacy of their home or at a bar. The smoker is not too concerned with the second hand smoke; the one who curses IS concerned with who hears him...but It's because he wants attention not because he cares; the female with the exposing clothing is simply following style, and sadly, she expects men NOT to stare (well the good for nothing ones at least, the ones she finds cute can). And none of the above mentioned probably care about the little child that's looking to them for an example.

We never set out on our daily live and say "Oh boy I think I'll make a mistake today" but we make bad choices which we later interpret as mistakes but only in retrospect or when we look back. In essence we seem to have grown wiser and can now see the mistake, but it most cases the consequences simply tell us "let's not go there again"

Believe it or not what goes around comes around... now this is not to be interpreted as some superstitious "jumbie" reaction and it also doesn't mean that if you steal money from someone the exact same amount of money will be stolen from you.

The Explanation: Energy. Although energy can be transformed into different forms the total energy remains the same, however, many different channels of energy exists whose total energy also remains the same. BUT the medium which the energy passes through has to experience the two channels of energy subsequently.

Simply put: The thief steals money from an individual so firstly, there is that energy being transformed. That money probably was meant to be given to a person in need and allow the victim to travel home. Now the person in need transforms another channel of energy and there now is the energy of the victim who now has to beg someone for a ride or money to go home, and the person who has to give the victim a ride has used up extra time and reaches home late, and then his family is angry because he reached home late and then the victim's family is mad because he got robbed and it could go on!

Now to the thief who may think that he got away has to, over time, absorb ALL those different channels of energy. So from then on many little things could start to go wrong culminating to one big thing.

On the good side - good deeds work the same way.

Let's say our victim wasn't robbed. He donated the money to charity. That money could have been just the right amount to pay for someone's surgery. The family of the patient is now happy beyond measure that their child lives. The news broadcasts this and now more people start to donate and the once victim's family is now happy because of his his deed and now he must receive all this good energy over time.

Sometimes the energy takes a while to arrive but as Martin Luther King said The Arch of the universe is long and pending but ALWAYS curves to justice!

Many of us usually wonder where good fortune comes from, we tell ourselves "things are going great" or "I wonder what did I do to deserve this"... my advice just say thank GOD and move on.

Similarly when many little bad things go wrong, try being nice so you could put some good will out there.

Remember to pay attention and live good.... It's really all I can say.

Which brings me to the reason for the name of this post. When you plant an orange seed, you don't get back one orange now do you? Remember that!

The Orange Seed - Part 3

"The Concern Of Thanks"

A wise man would usually tell me that there are three laws of the universe

1) The Law Of Attraction
2) The Law Of Vibration and
3) The Law Of Gratitude

The recent craze (and highly misconstrued) "the secret" has brought light onto the first two laws for the modern society; more so the first law.

The third law has been in the minds of us all from since...forever. But we've never really taken it to the deepest levels. I'm sure you parents would have taught you to say "thank you" whenever you would have received something. And they would periodically remind you to say "thank you".

This "thank you" that you express may first be perceived as simply manners, but what you invoke is a very powerful law; and that's the law of gratitude. This powerful law is an energy within itself. I have come to understand it as a tool of guidance...Guidance for the emotion, and by extension the soul. It allows us to notice all the little things that happen during the day that go right, all the things that could go right and all the things that have gone right in your life. this powerful technique, banishes fear, doubt, sadness and even disbelief. Gratitude for, simple things such as the fact you have skin on top of your flesh.

The law of gratitude has to regard for circumstances, it only knows the value of what you have and of what you can achieve. Gratitude allows you to see beyond your circumstances, beyond you situation, and in essence beyond your own choices.

How do we activate this law: Well we do it all the time!

1) Praying to whoever you call God is a good start. By saying thanks for what you have is a very good thing. Start with thanking your God for all the things in your immediate environment.

2) Try paying more attention. Notice all the things that went right and all the thing that could have been a lot worse. But stick to the former. This way your awareness not only increases but accepting those things that went you way and that which you cannot control is a giant step on your way to happiness.

3) In a relaxing period alone, try to meditate on ALL the things you can be thankful for. At least once a month. It's actually called a gratitude meditation. I mean scan you life thoroughly and pick out every luxury that you experience. Like a bed, the roads to drive on, your mind, your skin (would you prefer none?) the grocery. Although there may be more month at the end of the money, still be glad you have the opportunity to do something in the first place. How about you friends, and family. No friends? Then be thankful in knowing that if you want good friends they will come one day.

With this law it's impossible to feel fear, doubt, anger, or depression when you're feeling gratitude.

To be concluded

The Orange Seed - Part 2

"The Concern of Change"

What is an ability? This question has plagued my head for the past year and a half. Ever since a wise man told me "We never get better, we just lose the foolish idea that we couldn't do it before".
An ability is defined as: the quality of being able to perform

I pondered on this for many nights and the "quote" came to my head

"Practice makes perfect"

I then ask "why do I train?" To get better, this of course will contradict the above statement made by the wise man. So again, I'm confused yet still I believed him. After a few weeks of pondering I came across the answer while remembering a conversation I had with two of my friends long ago concerning the concept of ideas (which I'll delve into later). I went outside and found the nearest rock and stared at it for few seconds and said "hello rock". Of course the rock didn't answer. I was a bit disappointed, but the result was not unexpected.

So why did the rock not speak? Your answer of course will be "because rocks don't talk" or "It's a non-living thing" or whatever else, and you're right. The rock 100 years ago couldn't speak, it didn't speak today, and it's probably not going to speak in the next 1000 years. Can the rock practice to speak? No, because it doesn't have the ability speak in the first place.

So maybe the non-living thing was a bad example... so I tried my dog Spot (yes his name is spot) and said "hello there spot". Again, to my disappointment, my dog didn't answer. Instead he jumped up to reach my hands, and when I didn't respond he barked. Why did he bark? is that his way of speaking...nevertheless it's not a language I could understand; but again, Dogs are not able to speak...in human languages I guess. Which again would mean, he couldn't speak yesterday, he didn't speak today and he probably wouldn't speak tomorrow.

This rock and this dog, would not change, both living and non-living thing, then why is it that humans think that they change? Of course change is a word used to describe a difference in property, pattern, or the regular schema of things. But it really only means just that, a difference to what you're accustomed to. To say that we change is illogical at the deepest levels.

"If a room is left in darkness for ten years, and suddenly a light was shone in the room - what you will see is what is already there"

All that we emulate is already in us. We speak because we have the capability, we walk because we have the leg muscles. A rock cannot walk, why? No motor functions to support this. We study to become more knowledgeable, but it is our ability to understand that causes the knowledge to stay... and without that ability, studying would be pointless.

So now you may ask if we don't change, how can we grow? Well we do, but it is because of our awareness of ourselves. I'm sure you've heard of people wanting to find themselves - and then go on some journey looking; and after all the travelling they realise that if they had simply looked within they would have saved themselves a trip. But journeys are fun, so go anyway. Everything we are capable of becoming is already within us. A rock is a rock and never changes, A dog is a dog and will never change and you are you and you'll never change.

"If we choose good the good within us will manifest, if we choose bad the bad will develop"

The true change you speak of is within choice. For it is the choices we make that dictate which part of us we develop. Don't believe me? Let me give you a few examples of my theory. Consider a baby, and a mass murderer. I'm sure you prefer the baby. But can you imagine that the murder was once a baby; curious, innocent and drawn to good. Why did that baby develop into a mass murderer...CHOICE (and possibly child abuse) but CHOICE. Remember, the rock and dog cannot speak nor have the potential to speak. So then it means, to become a murderer, the baby had the potential to become a murderer.

Ok what about the bad guy who decided to "change" for good? Ask yourself, was he really bad in the first place, or did he just choose to fit in with his environment or go with the trend? Well the truth is he never really was bad, he just wanted to be "good" in the eyes of his peers, and when he learned what "good" really is he... well he didn't change he was always looking for good, he just made a different choice.

And what about you? Do you remember you dreams as a child? You're probably say that I've changed since then... Wrong, you chose to forget those thoughts (possibly) and do something more "realistic". But all that truly happened is that you developed you "adult" side. Which is sad.

So IN SHORT remember this...

"We do not change, we just become more aware of ourselves"

But I have not forgotten, I still imagine that I could fly, I still want to be a superhero, I still want to save the world and I will... Just give me a couple years.

The Orange Seed - Part 1

"The Concern of Tomorrow"

It is apparent to me (and it has been for a little while) that many people tend to lives their life in an automatic pilot mode. This proverbial mode is one where, in layman's terms, one sticks to a script. They are unaware that they're but mere paws in the greater scheme of things ,possibly as useful as the talking dead.

I see it all the time at from paying closer attention, it is as almost as if it is planned. The most knowledgeable can't make 1 + 1 to equal 3 then if any hint of logic is put into this game called life then consider this...

What of the media that shows and broadcasts, sex, violence, drug abuse and insanity; what of the fashion trends that tends to be more revealing every minute, what of the objectification of woman, what of the demoralisation of men, and most importantly what of the weak-minded who choose to follow.

It is apparent to me that neither intellect nor compassion are put into making decisions any longer. The next time you chose to listen to a song ask yourself: how does this truly help me and the others around me? or how about do I even like the song? Am I simply following a trend?

If your answer for any of these is that "The beat is catchy" to leave an answer so vague, then you have already lost the battle.

When the mind or heart does not know, it uses the generic escape route - quite logical I may say. But it is that vagueness that has us unaware of the world around us, and how our actions affect our immediate environment and by extension the world.

"Do this because everyone's doing it" is very open ended. It it open to the assault of the "why". I believe that it is designed this way, but I'll delve into this in part two.

To the selected few, their consciousness allows then to see farther than the average which is good as this allows them to make better decisions. The feeling of a moment seems to dictate the choice made. There are many quotes that would support this behaviour, most popularly "Live for Today, because Tomorrow is not promised" but what happens when tomorrow comes?

That above quote while true was never meant as "blow all your assets and act unintelligently because you might die tomorrow and if you do die you'll have lived a life without fun"...no! That quote means make TODAY COUNT. To add to it, make live easier for someone, make a difference somewhere because when you die, for the most part, the general public won't care how much fun you had.

Your death leaves behind your memory, so how will you be remembered?

Now is the only reality, which is true, and now is continuous and everlasting, and since we live in the now, you too are everlasting... so I ask why worry about tomorrow. Create your own future today!

You may be relieved of your physical body but live forever in the memory of history, or according to your religion, you may transcend to the spiritual realm and live forever there, of you may reincarnate into another form. But we know not the complete truth, but most of us believe that life doesn't end here...

So my advice to add virtue is "Live every act as if it were your last" because believe me my friend, those who say "Live today, because tomorrow is not promised" do not have death in mind, it is only an excuse to justify their irrational behaviour. And if you truly want to follow that quote in the wrong sense, then I suggest you never make a plan again... because that would be hypocritical.
